Switzerland, 1960s
Pair of leather 'King Chair' swivel armchairs by Andre Vandenbeuck for Strässle Switzerland. They are upholstered in black leather and have sculpted arms in either rosewood or walnut. The bases are a five point design and swivel. The chairs are loungey and also very comfortable. These were purchased from a design store in Amsterdam in the 1960s and later imported to the US. No maker's marks remain.
Note: I'm not completely sure if this particular base is Arflex (Italy) vs Strässle (Switzerland).
CONDITION NOTES: Leather upholstery has some buttons missing, some tears at edges, staining, and marks. When moving the chairs, it is not immediately apparent, but one chair has a cylindrical silver piece of hardware missing at the joint between the arm and the body of the chair. See photos. Some of the original glides were re-made with a 3D printer using the original as a template- they will be removed and sent attached in a separate bag- and should be glued to the frame upon arrival as they currently slide off when moving the chairs.
